If you want museums and art galleries there's the award-winning Museum of Science and Industry, the Manchester Museum, the refurbished Manchester Art Gallery, the Whitworth Art Gallery and the curving streamlined beauty of Urbis - a new kind of museum exploring people and cities.

We also have culture in abundance. Two buildings which typify this are the Bridgewater Hall and the Royal Exchange. One is a striking modern building, home to three orchestras including the Hallé, the other is a spectacular chamber hosting one of the nation's most acclaimed theatres and companies.

Museum of Science and Industry

Situated in the oldest passenger railway buildings in the world, the Museum tells the story of the history, science and industry of Manchester - the world's first industrial city.

Entry to the Museum's permanent collections is free for everyone!

Manchester Art Gallery

Formerly known as the City Art Gallery, the Manchester Art Gallery houses what is claimed to be one of Britain's best art collections and has recently undergone a £35m makeover. This is the largest of Manchester's Art Galleries, and houses an extensive collection of paintings, sculptures and ceramics, with paintings by Turner, Stubbs and Gainsborough.

The Bridgewater Hall

The Bridgewater Hall is an international concert venue in Manchester, England. It is a world-class venue that cost around £42 million to build and currently hosts over 250 performances a year. It is located in Lower Mosley Street.

Since its opening on 11 September 1996 it has been the home of the Hallé Orchestra and the Manchester Boys' Choir and is a regular venue for concerts of the BBC Philharmonic and Manchester Camerata.
